I could not agree more. Some of the sites or should i say most of the web pages i see are cluttered. They seem to try to jam every single bit of information on the 1st page. As you said keep it simple.
One or two Main focus points, and more than likely, the customer will click through to the next page. If the customer feels that they are making head way on your site they will continue on. The complexity of the site should not be too hard to navigate, some site keep taking you back to the same content.

Thank you for sharing your memories! The fact that there are lots of us running around who knew a time in life before everything was so slick and beautiful and FAST with respect to computers and technology goes to show how rapidly things change in this arena. Steve Jobs was a true visionary!

The first computer I bought was an Apple IIGS, one of the first color computers. It was so much fun! I also am reflecting on the contributions to our lives that Steve Jobs made. Thanks for this post.

Jim, The busier we are online, the more footprints we leave behind. Any place we stop and interact will create a record, which can be a very good part of an overall online strategy. The fact that you keep up with what's happening on your sites, as well as being a deliberate online user, speaks highly of you. We work so hard to create valuable content, deliver results for our audiences, and develop our brands -- we owe it to ourselves and our "tribes" to keep up with what does -- and does not -- appear on our sites! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. I appreciate you! Mary Lou

Erica, I imagine you are in the majority of FB users -- you love FB, so you tolerate the changes, perhaps grudgingly at times. :) Technology makes things amazing for us, but can also drive us bananas as it is bound to change, and fast! Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. Mary Lou

Hi Mary Lou,

I personally haven't liked the latest FB changes. However, I acknowledge this is more of a reaction to change and we do need to progress. So I'm currently making an effort to adjust, as I love FB....

Mary Lou,

Great post and great reminder. I typed in the title of the blog post, it brought me to a CBS blog. It looks like the blog post has been finally deleted. In any event, you are so correct in that we must monitor our comments daily. I let commentors comments appear immediately because I am someone who likes immediate feedback. But I do like to check at least once a day to make sure nothing spammy or shady has appeared. We also need to keep in mind that our comments on political and "news" blogs will also appear in google searches for our name, so just because you are not posting on a tech blog doesn't mean it won't be seen by your followers at some point.
Thanks,
Jupiter Jim

Michaele, Thank you for sharing the details about spammy comments and how they affect SEO rankings. I am actually happy to know that Google is cracking down on all the garbage cluttering up the Internet and giving points to quality vs. quantity. I realize that automation online is a very powerful thing, and when monitored properly can yield big results. But with a blog? Automatically approving comments is obviously not the way to go as it can lead to some embarrassing and perhaps even harmful outcomes.

HI Michaele, I was just over at TechCrunch this morning reading more about the upcoming Facebook timeline, and the comment section alone is a comedy show! People are all over the place with their reactions to this newest change, including folks saying that this change turns Facebook into MySpace. Having never used MySpace, I wouldn't know, but the people making this comparison are adamant they are going to move to Google+ if this change turns out to be, in their estimation, "a lowering of the bar." Oh the radicals! I find the entire discourse quite entertaining and look forward to seeing what people say in a month from now when the dust is settling and they are enthralled with their wall's new look. :)

Hey Mary Lou,

The announcements coming out of F8 have caused a stir to say the least. I agree that things are changing at a breath taking speed but people need to realize that that's part and parcel of the online world.

Personally, I think the new changes are awesome from a marketing perspective. Every user now literally has a free page that has the look and feel of a website. And yet it has the social activity to boot! The new cover photo area is huge and I can see that marketers will be coming up with all kinds of creative ideas to put it to good use. With open graph now opening up to app developers, I can wait to see what they come up with.

I do have concerns about some of the changes from a privacy perspective, but I'll save them for a private chat.
