First, Watch this Video Below about Creating a Vision Board…
Creating a vision board, aka dream board, is an essential part of the home based entrepreneur’s journey. Because the human mind is designed for images, assembling a board of images that reflects your goals and dreams can create powerful results for entrepreneurs.
I have created several vision boards over the years, and what’s amazing to me is how many of them have come true. I look back at the dream boards I created 3, 4, even 5 years ago and my jaw drops because so much of what is on those older boards has manifested in my life. I know many people who say the same thing has happened to them as well, that the dream boards they’ve created have come true.
So what do you need to make a vision board? Here is a list of the basic supplies:
- Poster board (either large or small)
- Scissors
- Magazines that reflect your interests and dreams (i.e. travel, fine dining, shopping, cars, etc.)
- Glue sticks
- Scotch tape
- Photos of yourself and important people in your life (spouse, kids, friends, etc.)
Plan to spend an hour or so going through the magazines to find pictures, words, and phrases that catch your attention. Anything that speaks to you is fair game. You will probably cut out more images than you use, and that’s okay.
Some people like to have dream board parties where a group gets together, pools magazines and other supplies, enjoys an afternoon or evening together with food and wine, creating their vision boards. This can be a really fun activity to do as you build your business team, or just to get some friends together who want to make vision boards.
Arrange the pictures and words in a way that makes sense to you. I usually put a central goal or dream at the center of my board and then build around that. Whatever feels right to you is great. There is not right or wrogn way to make a vision board. In fact, the point here is to MAKE one. Everyone’s board will come out looking different and that’s part of the fun.
Hang or place your board where you can see it all the time. Make a point of looking at it regularly and absorbing all the images into your brain. It may seem like a simple thing, but it is very very powerful because you are sending positive messages to your subconscious that will propel you to take action and do what you need to do to get what you want.
I suggest taking a photograph of your completed vision board, then printing out either a 3 1/2×5 or 4×6 image of it, gluing that on an index card, and writing your goals on the back of the card. Once you have that done, get the card laminated at a local office supply place. This way, you can carry around your miniature vision board and look at it several times a day, which will only reinforce your dreams that much more.
Successful people take the steps necessary to ensure their success. Creating a vision board is one of those steps, and can have a powerful effect on your life moving forward. Have fun, and make a point to create YOUR vision board soon!
Great Video Mary Lou! I think I need to do your poster board idea. My little Cork Board one needs a refresh. That tip about taking a picture and putting your goals on the back is very good and is now on my to do list for tomorrow. Great stuff!
