back to basics
Player Practicing A Free Throw

Today’s post is inspired by that iconic men’s college basketball coach, John Wooden.

Coach Wooden was famous for instructing his players to go back to basics when things got out of control.

You don’t have to be a starting player for UCLA or any other team to take this advice.

When life starts to get a little crazy, do you have some kind of basic system that you can fall back on that will help you center yourself, regain clarity and purpose, and allow you to get back into that rhythm that moves your business and life down the track?

If you don’t have something like that in place, now would be a good time to start thinking about what you could create as a basic system that will give you that peace of mind when things get chaotic and a little bit out of control.

John Wooden would have his players practice their free throws and dribbling skills.

Vince Lombardi, the iconic Green Bay Packers coach, would start every practice by saying:

“Gentlemen, this is a football.”

Remind yourself of your football.

Remind yourself to practice your free throws.

Find those basics in your life you can turn to and rely on when things get tough so you can keep moving forward and not fall prey to what happens to most people:

Get thrown to the wind and let that wind take them wherever it may blow.
