It’s one thing to read about the benefits of podcasting.

It’s another thing all together to experience the benefits of podcasting.

Why Podcasting Is Exploding

With its growing popularity and high content value when planned and executed well, podcasting is fast becoming THE way of sharing a mission, message, or just plain old entertainment with a hungry listening audience.

Podcasting is being used by entrepreneurs, educators, entertainers, Fortune 500 companies, and average folks who have a passion about something and want to serve a specific audience in a particular niche. With a low cost and barrier to entry, it’s not that difficult to host a podcast these days. And it’s a lot of fun!

The Play Your Position Podcasting Journey Begins

At the end of 2013, I decided to add podcasting to my business strategy. You can read more about my podcasting story here, but in a nutshell, I launched my Play Your Position Podcast as an act of generosity. I wanted to create a show using a very specific frame (in my case, the game of football frames the show) through which the stories of my guests would be illuminated and ultimately lead to interesting insights about excellence, mastery, and the human condition, three things that happen to fascinate me.

I also wanted to contribute high value content to the marketplace and not just be another long-winded series of rants and raves, or a cookie cutter program that repurposes the same old personal development or online marketing tips.

Going into this venture, I had only the people from whom I was learning the technical side of podcasting as my guides. Podcasting was, like so many other things entrepreneurs do, a leap of faith. But I trusted the likes of John Lee Dumas, the creator and host of the wildly successful podcast Entrepreneurs on Fire, as well as a business associate, Kim Doyal, who has also enjoyed the benefits of podcasting with her show called The WordPress Chick.

(Quick sidenote — if you are looking for guidance on how to launch a podcast, you can’t find someone more qualified to teach you that than John Lee Dumas of Entrepreneurs on Fire. John produces an extraordinary show 7 days a week and truly exemplifies living his passion and purpose. Not only do I want to be a guest on his show one day, if he happens to be reading this post, let it be known he is also on my list of dream guests for the Play Your Position Podcast!)

The Surprise Benefits of Podcasting

I am now two months into this new adventure and more excited than ever about the experience. In that short time, my show has been downloaded in 13 countries around the world, and the list keeps growing. I went into podcasting expecting to enjoy having conversations with interesting people. That’s something I’ve loved to do since I was a little girl sitting around the dining room table in my childhood home talking and laughing with my family. I also expected that my guests would share stories that made me stop and think about life in a way I hadn’t before.

The biggest surprise of my podcasting journey, though, is having people I don’t even know contact me directly because they listened to the show, asking how they can be a guest. This just affirms that I’m on the right path and have created something meaningful. And let’s be honest — it feels good to be validated! 🙂 My guests so far have exceeded my expectations for quality, and I look forward each week to having conversations with a wide variety of individuals who lead fascinating lives and are contributing to the world rather than simply existing in it.

Open Call for Guests

I am always open to discovering new people and their stories. As I begin to map out the next 3-6 months of podcast episodes, I am interested in adding new names to my lineup. Would you or someone you know like to be considered as a guest for an upcoming episode on the Play Your Position Podcast?  It’s easy to apply — simply fill out the short form below and we will connect with you soon!
