In the race to gain followers, a fan base, and loyal readers, bloggers are up against a huge wall of time commitment (or outsourcing).
I have been a huge blogging advocate for years, one of blogging’s champions.
A blog is where you create your home online.
It is the place to showcase your thoughts, your teachings, your products, YOU.
But as a seasoned blogger now with more than 100 original posts to my name, the question keeps coming up for me:
Is blogging more pain than profit?
Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE to write, and so blogging is a natural extension of that passion for me.
However, I love writing about what I want to write about, as the mood strikes, and not be boxed in to one narrow niche where I am scrambling for fresh topics after putting up the first ten posts.
I launched this blog more than a year ago with full intentions that it would somehow increase my bottom line.
And it has, to a certain extent.
I mean, I have made money from my online efforts.
But not to the degree I imagined…or expected at this point.
And the majority of my online income has come from places other than my blog.
The paradox of blogging in this new economy is that on the one hand, for credibility purposes, a blog is a terrific trust-builder. On the other hand, building up a blog so that it really stands out and remains relevant takes a boatload of time.
Time that could be used for things that directly put money in your bank account.
I am not giving up on blogging, but I now see that it is not the end-all-be-all I once thought it was when it comes to making money. Yes, it’s a critical piece of my professional portfolio, of my brand…but it is definitely not the main source of my cash flow.
