At the Golden Globes awards ceremony last night, the creator of the hit AMC show “Breaking Bad” — Vince Gilligan — talked about the early days of the program when “viewership was low” and they had no choice but to run on belief and faith in their vision.
Several years later, “Breaking Bad” concluded its fifth season, drawing series best numbers in all categories, including 10.3 million total viewers.
Imagine what would have happened if the team behind this hit show had folded its tent after the first season, when ratings were non-existent and it had only its belief in its own story to run on.
Everyone in a leadership role — especially entrepreneurs — faces those early days when things seem bleak, riddled with self-doubt, no audience, negative bank balances, and the like.
It’s important for anyone with a dream to remember that when times get dark, Vince Gilligan and the thousand other stories like his are a reminder of what’s possible when you stay the course and believe in what you’re doing.
The early days are beyond  hard. For most, they are excruciating.
But if you hang in there, the rewards can be incomparable.
Just ask Vince Gilligan and the cast of “Breaking Bad.”
