They ruled our worlds as children, and if you’re lucky enough, they continue to play a big role in your life as a grown up.
But these days, it seems, too many dreams have turned into nightmares.
I talk to and interact with A LOT of entrepreneurs every day, and the word that defines the year so far is overwhelmingly…
Overwhelm.
Yup. Entrepreneurs, small biz owners, freelancers, and the like are completely overwhelmed by everything they THINK they need to be doing to succeed (read: make more money).
Things like tweeting 20 times a day (not important), having a professional Facebook page (arguable), becoming a professional blogger (nope) and the list goes on and on.
This list creates nightmares for people yet for many, it’s one they can’t wake up from. Another black hole of time wasting “tasks” that do nothing to increase the bottom line.
I can see you nodding your head because you get what I’m talking about.
Technology is supposed to make our lives easier, but these days it seems as if all technology does is add one more thing to the “to-do” list.
It doesn’t have to be that way.
I know the economy sucks.
It sucks for a lot of people.
But if your dream has turned into a nightmare, and your stomach hurts and keeps you up at night, and you no longer have any relationship of any kind except with your psychiatrist and the guy who fills your prescription bottle at the local pharmacy…
Stop.
Stop killing yourself. It’s not worth it.
There are lots of people who have a dream and are working to make it come true without the overwhelm. Without the night terrors.
You can be one of them — perhaps for the first time, perhaps again.
The secret is to take a step back and take stock of what you are doing now. Be honest with yourself.
What’s working? What isn’t? Be clear about each. Write it down.
Then, change accordingly.
Often the shift is simple and doesn’t hurt.
There’s $15 trillion in the economy. I guarantee there’s a place for your dream somewhere in it. Don’t let the nightmare steal it from you or tell you it’s impossible.
You know right well it isn’t.
Hi Mary Lou,
Thanks for a very timely and sensible post. Thanks
Anything for you, Jerry! 🙂
