Re: On personal leave until further notice

Dear Humans,

It is with a great deal of thought and consideration that I have decided to take some much needed personal time off to reflect on the current conditions of the planet. Doing so will give you all the chance to figure some shit out about the direction you want life to go moving forward.

Frankly, I’m surprised you haven’t gotten the message yet given the last several years of extreme weather I’ve sent your way. Apparently, tornados, hurricanes, tsunamis, and forest fires haven’t been enough to facilitate more positive action and less division among you all.

Maybe COVID19 will do the trick?

I’m cautiously optimistic. So far, it seems to be working. I’m seeing you slowing down. You are taking precautions seriously including social distancing and hand washing.

In fact, you are washing your hands more times a day now than you’ve washed your hands in your entire lifetime added together. If that’s the only behavior change that comes out of this pandemic, I will celebrate that victory for the rest of time.

If you haven’t noticed, Humans — the world has been suffering under the strain of your decisions for far too long. The insane pace of your lives, the anxiety, the depression, the numbing out on tiny screens and sugar and drugs and social media isn’t getting you anywhere. You’ve been stuck in second gear like that song from the show “Friends” so many of you continue to watch reruns of on TV Land. Friends is a word I wish more of you would take more seriously. Not in the sense of racking up numbers on your Facebook account, but in taking the time to be a friend.

To see and spend time with a friend.

To let your friends know you care about them with a card or a call.

Humans, your self-generated suffering of late has been exhausting to watch. Aren’t you tired of constantly fighting?

Like, All. The. Damn. Time?

Aren’t you sick and tired of always being sick and tired?

Don’t you want a less frantic pace of life so you can enjoy more sunrises and sunsets, more bees buzzing from flower to flower, more walks on the beach, more skiing in fresh powder, more trips to the mountains, more locally-sourced farm-to-table meals, more singing, more dancing, more laughing, more hugging, more kittens and puppies?

Don’t you want to take less seriously how many followers you have on Instagram and more seriously your very short time on this beautiful planet?

Because contrary to what some of those online marketers promise you after you give them your email address, how much time you get isn’t changing anytime soon.

Sorry, not sorry.

You all have only so much and none of you knows how much you have.

I love you all beyond words and only want the best for you. But sometimes Mother Nature needs to run interference, put a stop to the nonsense and call a time out.

For you AND for me.

So, until further notice, you will be in your rooms and I will be in the tub taking a bubble bath, indulging in some much-needed self-care. I strongly suggest you all do the same. I suspect many of you will discover that taking a time out isn’t such a bad thing after all.

In fact, I expect that, when all is said and done, the next wave of tremendous breakthroughs, innovations, and inventions designed to make a difference for the world will emerge from this experience.

XO XO
