My Twitter story is this.
About a month ago, I became active again on the micro blog after nearly three years of complete dormancy.
I went from the long standing, “I just don’t get Twitter” to my fresh perspective of “Twitter is freaking amazing!” Like to the point of tweeting several times a day and spending time looking around and actually clicking on links posted by people in my Twitter feed. I’ve discovered some pretty good content along with interesting individuals I am now following. And it’s all so easy.
I was an early Twitter adopter, and actively built meaningful connections with it for the first year. I don’t remember why I moved away from it exactly. For whatever reason, it just wasn’t fitting in to my online lifestyle.
That all changed this month. I returned to Twitter for a few reasons. Partly because I’m a huge sports fan — many of my favorite teams (Oregon Ducks) and commentators (Kirk Herbstreit) use Twitter. Partly because Twitter is economical and to-the-point. Partly because Twitter is fun.
I love — and respect — Twitter’s searchability. It’s so easy to find exactly what I want to find with hashtags. It’s so easy to find people with the @ symbol. Competence and brevity are treasured.
I also like that Twitter is the ultimate platform for telling micro stories. As life gets crazier and the lines between the physical world and the Internet world get blurrier, economy and efficiency become highly valued by anyone who wants to be a part of the conversation while still having time left to pursue passions and dreams.
The genius of Twitter is easily missed. I know I sure missed it. For three whole years. I’m just grateful I didn’t miss another three.
