It Has Nothing to Do with Winning the Lottery

winning the lottery
Saw a post on Facebook today that read:

“If I ever win the lottery, I’m going to donate a big portion to your cause.”

My response to this is:

Why not donate now?

Supporting a cause you believe in has nothing to do with winning the lottery and everything to do with your mindset around giving.

If money is tight and you can’t part ways with what little you have, donate some time to the cause you like. Call them up and offer to do something to help them get known. Write a blog post about the organization with links to their website or other online location. Tweet about something cool they’re doing for the community. Volunteer on location for a day, an afternoon, an hour.

It amazes me how many people believe that the ability to give is possible only once a certain threshold of income is met. That you have to be comfortable in order to contribute.

This kind of backwards thinking is why people like the Facebook poster above struggle to succeed.

Success is built on a foundation of gratitude and giving with no expectation of anything in return. It’s a habit like bathing or exercise. The more you do it, the more benefits you enjoy.

Simple as that.
