Videos are probably the most compelling part of blogs these days because viewers are expecting to see them, even demanding to see them. It is very rare to find a blog in the Internet Marketing arena without video. And since ALL the successful bloggers and Internet Marketers use video, I figure it is wise to do what they do and encourage you to do the same.

Yet if you are not used to being in front of a camera or are scared you are going to look dumb, you may be avoiding putting this critical piece of the puzzle into place.

My purpose in this 3-part series of posts is to give you some practical video tips to help you move beyond these common obstacles that hold people back:

1. “I don’t know what to say.”
2. “I look bad on camera.”
3. “I am not successful, so why would anyone listen to me?”

Believe me, I totally understand these statements because I made them myself when I first started with Internet Marketing! And guess what? So did all the big wigs online! EVERYONE was a rookie at one point. No one was born being a great video marketer.

The key is, I recognized how important having videos of myself was to building my brand, so I pushed past my fears (all unfounded, I came to discover) and got filming just like all my mentors did.

Now, like any Hollywood actor will tell you, there are many, many takes before a scene is deemed worthy (think of all the funny outtakes you enjoy watching while the credits roll! You will get your own personal collection of “bloopers” too).

It is no different in the Internet Marketing video production studios. Will you have to roll the camera several times to get a video you want to post on your blog? Yes, but that’s okay because with each take, you get better. And since this is a business of personal development, getting better is something you will welcome with arms wide open!

So here are some of my personal video tips about getting the words right as you get ready to create your own videos:

1. Study videos on other blogs for examples and ideas. Some of my role models are Katie Freiling, Dave Anderson, , and of course, the master, Jonathan Budd.
2. Write down what you want to say and practice saying it. One of the hallmarks of Internet Marketing videos is they are not highly produced (aka flashy or glitzy). People are attracted to people they identify with, so you want to be yourself. But you also want to practice what you want to say and then say it naturally, not like you are reading a script.
3. If you are stuck for what to say, find someone online whose video you like and write down what they say, word for word. Will this take some time? Yes, but you will get some effective copy that you can tweak to fit your style and personality.

Those are my video tips for this post. Stay tuned for part 2 of this series in which I will discuss how to get beyond thinking you won’t look good on camera.

I also invite you to share in the comment section below tips you have about getting the words right in your videos and how you personally overcame any obstacles about what to say!

Happy filming!
